Painful bowel movements on period?

Does anyone else find it uncomfortable when on the first day of your period? It's really weird, I don't get it any other time. It's not even like constipation. Why does this happen?
Answer:
Many women have minor bowel problems when they have their period. Some women get constipated, others have loose stools, others have more frequent stools.

It's most likely due to a combination of factors, which is why it can be different for each woman. For instance, some women retain water during their period, which can cause bloating and overall abdominal discomfort. It just feels kind of like there's just not enough room in the abdomen.

Also, the uterine contractions (the same ones that cause menstrual cramps) can cause the bowel to contract as well, which can cause discomfort.

My best advice to you is to drink a lot of water when you have you period. It helps with the bloating, and also can ease bowel discomfort. And, make sure that you have a healthy diet that includes lots of good fiber-- like whole grains and fruits and vegetables. That will also help ease discomfort.

If it is severe, and you are having pain, make sure you talk with your doctor about it.

Hope this helps!
Your hormones are changing, that's what causes the flow. Drink more water starting the first day of flow. You might find eating oatmeal or apples help, too.
